Career Peer Advisor

Job Description

The Career Peer Advisor (CPA) is a key part of the Student Relations Team in the CCPD. Under the supervision of CCPD Career Advisors, the CPAs will facilitate the career development of Roger Williams students through 1:1 advising appointments, workshops, and presentations. Through targeted outreach to students and faculty, CPAs will assist their supervising Career Advisor in building connections between the CCPD and their academic school. CPAs will also support the day to day operations of the CCPD office by fielding inquiries from students, employers, and university community members. 

Primary Responsibilities  

Career Advising 

  • Serve as primary point of contact at the CCPD Career Lab: conduct scheduled and drop-in appointments with students on specific career-related topics including: 
    • Resume, cover letter, and online profile creation & review 
    • Job search strategies 
    • Printing resumes and business cards 
  • Support Career Advising team in conceptualizing & delivering career-related presentations to audiences across campus  
  • Conduct remote resume reviews for students across campus  
  • Refer students to Career Advisors as needed for advanced support and advising on career-related topics 

CCPD Promotion & Outreach 

  • Market the CCPD to undergraduate students to enhance awareness of the CCPD’s programs and services; conduct targeted outreach to encourage students to engage with the CCPD. 
  • Represent the CCPD at campus events such as Admitted Student Days, Open Houses, etc.  
  • Support the day-of execution of CCPD events by providing on-site support for set-up, event operation, and take down.  

Administrative & Office Support 

  • Monitor CCPD department email accounts and respond as appropriate   
  • Staff the office’s front desk; act as first point of contact for employers, university community members, and students entering the CCPD 
  • Maintain accurate records of student interactions 

Ongoing Training & Development 

  • Attend biweekly one on ones with supervisor and biweekly team meetings with supervisor and CPA team  
  • Participate in CCPD Student Staff Training taking place before the start of classes at the end of August (dates TBD). 

 Work Schedule 

  • This role will work primarily out of the Career Lab in the Center for Career & Professional Development. Generally, work will take place between 8:30 AM and 4:30 PM Monday through Friday, but may also include some evening and weekend hours.  
  • Work schedule will be determined based on staff member’s availability and academic schedule. 

 Qualifications  

  • Must be eligible for Federal Work Study (for more on Work Study eligibility, contact the Financial Aid office).   
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills  
  • Organized, self-motivated, and comfortable operating independently
