Student Assistant - School of Engineering, Computing and Construction Management (SECCM)
Job Description
The SECCM Student Office Assistant is responsible for assisting staff with tasks such as: greeting office guests, assisting students with questions, answering phones, sorting mail, organizing shelves, replenishing supplies, copying, shredding, mailings, deliveries, assisting with event planning, event marketing, small research projects and other projects as assigned. The position also requires some lifting of up to 25 lbs. Student is required to be professional, dependable, and work well with all levels of management. The role of this position will prepare students to take leadership roles in various office style organizations.
This position will support the student academically and professionally by developing "hard" and "soft" transferable skills, including communication skills, interpersonal skills, analytic skills, and organizational skills (learning to balance multiple types of responsibilities with varying degrees of details, keeping track of and prioritizing details, progress, and goals, time management, and working independently).
The student will learn office skills as well as how to identify and document the associated tasks with each skill and tum those skills into written procedures. They will learn how to implement those procedures and how to analyze the effectiveness of the procedures and presentations. These are important skills in any business-related profession. This experience will enhance their academic progress, as they are able to relate and apply the skills they learn to their academic work as well as apply what they learn in the classroom to this position.
Special Skills Needed:
Candidates should possess strong organizational skills, communication skills and be dependable, and be able to maintain confidentiality at all times. Ability to use Microsoft office such as outlook, word and excel as well as Adobe products, CANVA and social media are preferred but not required.
