Learn to Sail Instructor
Job Description
- Teach safety, boat handling and sailing theory to sailors of all ages in dinghies who are beginner sailors.
- Develop and implement lesson plans, new curriculum, and complete all required reports and evaluations.
- Have empathy for the students and be able to adapt to their individual needs.
- Enforce all policies of the Center and maintain a safe learning environment for sailors.
- Help to maintain and clean the docks, boats and Sailing Center before and after class.
- Must become familiar with Waterfront safety regulations and emergency action plan.
- Communicate with Head Sailing Coach about class progress.
Special Skills Needed
Must have US Sailing Level 1 Certification with up-to-date CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications, must have National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) Safe Boating certification or equivalent. General knowledge of dinghy sailing and motorboat operation and usage. All Recreational Sailing Monitors must pass the swim test administered by the Waterfront Coordinator that includes a 100 yard swim and treading water for 10 minutes. Applicants must be responsible and trustworthy. Waterfront Staff are responsible for the safety of waterfront users and must be willing to take that responsibility seriously.
