Business Affairs Student Assistant
Job Description
This role will perform a variety of duties to help the student grow his or her business management and finance skills. It will help the student will understand the inner workings of running a business, which, in this case, includes maintaining the School of Law building. The role will allow the student to learn to work independently, multi-task, and prioritize projects based on workload. In addition, it will help the student learn to cultivate and maintain positive and cooperative working relationships with co-workers and various campus departments.
Year 1
Responsibility/Function
- Assist in facilities oversight - periodically survey the common areas and classrooms to record areas of concern and submit work orders to the Facilities Department
- Assist departments with periodic travel and event coordination
- Enter accounts payable requests into the Etrieve System
- Prepare Excel spreadsheets as needed
- Research projects as needed – peer tuition, etc.
- Sort University Tickets data for reports
- Stay on top of classroom temperatures (especially those months where we typically get the most complaints)
- Review Business Affairs website to make sure forms are up to date and links work
Year 2
Responsibility/Function
- Some responsibilities from year 1 will continue
- Excel spreadsheets – analyzing and tracking data
- Review student time sheets for accuracy and make adjustments as needed
- Assist with drafting simple agreements (ex. Exhibit A agreements, which are simple and straightforward)
- Assist with research for staff development
Year 3
Responsibility/Function
- Some responsibilities from year 1 and year 2 will continue
- Participate in planning and organization of building renovation projects
- Track expenses and compare to budget to ensure that budgets are on target
*Students are prohibited from driving during work-study employment with the limited exception of authorized work-study driver positions.
