Ukraine: Reflections from Home and Abroad
Roger Williams University Library & Scholars at Risk present a virtual conversation with Liz Shchepetylnykova and Olena Tanchyk, two Ukrainian scholars who will share their experiences of living in Ukraine, and of escaping their homeland in the moments leading up to the war. Both will offer their insights, as well as look forward to how members of the Higher Education community can help support colleagues and fellows students affected by the war.
Liz (Lelyzaveta) Shchepetylnykova is a long-standing civil society activist and expert on education policy in Ukraine. Liz has engaged in monitoring attacks on higher education of Ukraine since 2014. Her research focuses on higher education in post-Soviet states, and she is currently affiliated with the University of Hong Kong.
Olena Tanchyk is dean of economics faculty at Donetsk State University of Management (Mariupol) and currently a Fulbright scholar at Arizona State University. Olena had to leave Donetsk after the Russian invasion in 2014 and currently her new home in Mariupol is under attack.
