Beazley Kanost holds a PhD in American Literature from the University of Rhode Island, and is currently adapting her dissertation, “Off the Hip: a Thermodynamics of the Cool,” for publication. Her essay “The Agitating Power of Civil Rights Cool in ‘Going to Meet the Man,’” appears in the critical anthology James Baldwin: Challenging Authors. She holds an MFA from Brown University and an MA in English from the University of Oklahoma, and in addition to teaching writing and Core 104 at Roger Williams, she teaches film at the University of Rhode Island. 

I have 18 years' experience teaching at the college level, which includes:

  • 4 years at the University of Oklahoma, teaching Composition and Technical Writing.
  • 1 year teaching creative writing as a graduate teaching assistant at Brown University.
  • 9 years teaching composition, creative writing, literature and Core 104 at Roger Williams University.
  • 4 years teaching composition at Wheaton College.
  • 6 and a half years teaching literature, composition and introduction to film at the University of Rhode Island. 

I have also taught non-credit writing courses for adults through the Brown Learning Community and creative writing summer workshops for high school students at Brown University.  

I usually teach WTNG 100: Introduction to Academic Writing, WTNG 102: Expository Writing and CORE 104: Literature, Philosophy, and the Ascent of Ideas at Roger Williams University. I

In the past I have also taught ENG 100: Introduction to Literature, WTNG 220: Critical Writing for the Professions, CW 100: Survey of Creative Writing, CW 220: Narrative in Writing the Short Story, and CW 360: Writers Reading Poetry Seminar.
