Roldán+BerenguéR+B is an Architectural Platform founded by Miguel Roldán and Mercedes Berengué. Their work covers different scales, from urban planning to interior design, with public buildings: Economists Headquarters, residential projects: Europe Tower, and historical restoration: Fire Brigade Museum of Barcelona. R+B has received numerous awards, including the 2002 and 2021 FAD Architecture Prizes for the m&m Housing and the Fabra & Coats Social Housing. Both projects were shortlisted in the Mies van der Rohe Awards. R+B work is based on the research of layers of complexity, discovering promises and transforming problems into opportunities. The designs respond to the specific demands of every context with a strong communicative presence. Miguel Roldán is Founder, Director and Design Studio Professor of the Barcelona Architecture Center, BAC, since 1998, hosting study abroad programs for the Clemson University,Texas A&M, CEDIM, Penn State, Shibaura Institute of Technology, and, since 2015 Roger Williams University. The BAC has welcomed over 3,000 students.
David Espuña is Academic Coordinator of the Barcelona Architecture Center, BAC, and a Design Studio Professor since 2022. He has led and teach courses for over 450 students, of 15 programs from five North American and Japanese universities, including Roger Williams University. Since 2017, he has combined his academic work with professional practice as an Architect at Roldán+Berengué Office. Together with Miguel Roldán and Mercedes Berengué, he has collaborated in internationally recognized projects such as Fabra & Coats Social Housing, winner of the 2021 Architecture FAD Award. David studied Architecture at the ETSAB, School of Architecture of Barcelona, where he graduated in 2018. He also holds a Master’s in Architecture and Urban Planning with Honors: 10/10, “Matrícula de Honor”. He completed a course in Sustainable Urban Design at Lund University’s School of Architecture in Sweden. From 2017 to 2018, he served as an Assistant Professor at ETSAB and as a Training Researcher in the Design Studio Department.
