Training Description
Our Doula Education Training equips you with the skills, knowledge, and cultural competency to support birthing individuals through pregnancy, labor, birth, postpartum, and beyond. Whether you aim to specialize in birth care, provide solace during pregnancy loss, or become a community advocate, this training prepares you to make a meaningful impact while promoting holistic well-being. Join us to start your journey as a doula and make a difference one family at a time during one of life’s most transformative moments. Through this program, you’ll learn:
- Birth Plan development, labor support techniques, and postpartum recovery care.
- Emotional and educational guidance for infant care, breastfeeding, and mental health support.
- Advocacy skills to help families make informed decisions about their care.
- Culturally sensitive communication and professional ethics to work effectively with diverse populations.
Training Objectives
- Develop Core Doula Skills: Equip participants with essential skills to support birthing individuals, including birth plan development, labor support techniques, and postpartum recovery care.
- Provide Emotional and Educational Support: Train participants to deliver guidance on infant care, breastfeeding, mental health, and emotional support to birthing individuals and their families.
- Foster Advocacy and Empowerment: Build advocacy skills that enable doulas to assist families in making informed decisions regarding their care and navigate healthcare systems effectively.
- Promote Cultural Competency: Prepare participants to communicate sensitively and ethically with diverse populations, respecting cultural and individual preferences.
- Prepare for Certification Requirements: Fulfill the 20-hour educational component required by the RI Department of Health for Certified Perinatal Doula qualifications.
- Encourage Holistic Well-Being: Promote practices that enhance the physical, emotional, and mental well-being of birthing individuals during pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period.

Training Modality and Structure

Student Engagement and Participation
The training is rigorous and requires in-person attendance, participation, cooperation, in-class readings, video and working as a team. Please note that this standalone training does not grant Certified Perinatal Doula status.

Training Schedule Breakdown
DAY 1 / DAY2: 9:00am – 6:00pm | 8 Hours | includes two 15 min breaks and 30-minute lunch break
DAY 3: 9:00am – 2:00pm | 4 hours
Certified Perinatal Doula Status
This Doula Education Training meets the required 20-hour education portion of the Certified Perinatal Doula requirements for the RI Department of Health. You may need to demonstrate additional competencies such as CPR and ServSafe certification to obtain Certified Perinatal Doula status. Please contact the RI Dept. of Health for more information.
