Graduate Assistant: Queer and Trans Student Initiatives Programming

The Queer and Trans Student Initiatives Programming Graduate Assistant is a 9-month, 13 hour/week position that supports activities of the Queer and Trans Resource and Advocacy Center (QTRAC) while pursuing a graduate degree.

Starting in January 2022 and serving as a member of the Intercultural Center, the Graduate Assistant will support queer and trans student initiatives in a variety of ways.

Essential Functions

  • Create and plan programs specific to the support of queer and trans students
  • Serve as a resource co-advisor to queer and trans living learning community (LLC).
  • Create partnerships with campus partners for relationship building, networking and mentoring for students
  • Assist with planning of educational, social and networking programs
  • Manage programming budget
  • Develop and implement marketing strategies for events
  • Recruit volunteers and student workers for events
  • Collaborate with students, student clubs and organizations, staff, faculty, offices and departments

Expectations

  • Maintain regular office hours throughout the week
  • Graduate Assistant must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0, required for satisfactory academic progress in RWU graduate programs.
  • Adhere to strict confidentiality policies when working with students and accessing student records as a matter of respecting students’ privacy.
  • Be in good academic and judicial standing with the University.

Required Qualifications

Applicants must be accepted into a graduate program at Roger Williams University prior to starting in the position. The graduate assistantship can support and complement the student’s field of study. Strong commitment to creating a diverse and inclusive environment required. Strong communication and organizational skills required.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous experience in event planning and involvement in co-curricular activities as an undergraduate preferred. Preference given to candidates accepted into a two-year graduate program.
