Career Center, Hands-on Learning Prepares Student Leader for Construction Management Job

Audrey Corcoran ’23, who majored in Construction Management and double minored in Business Management and Visual Arts, will be working as an Assistant Project Manager with Elaine Construction in Newton, Mass.  

Praise for Career Center: “I love that the Center for Career and Professional Development has workshops that help with resumes and cover letters. There are really amazing people who work there. They were helpful in preparing me for tough questions during the job interview process.”  

Importance of Internships: “I had three internships in project management – two with a general contractor in Connecticut with a small-town feel, and this past summer with Shawmut Design and Construction in Providence. It was interesting to see how a bigger company operates versus a smaller company. Interning helped dip my toes into the field.”  

Hands-on Training: “I love the hands-on experience I’ve gotten at Roger. The classrooms were really beneficial; you learn things that you then see in your internships. My sophomore year we built a shed. We took what we learned and applied it to a structure that we built. My junior and senior year, we went out into the field and focused on the project management side.”  

Corcoran, of East Granby, Conn., has served as the president for Women in Construction and the Construction Management Club. She also served as a resident assistant and played on the intramural softball team.
