Roger Life: College Degree a Lifelong Goal for UC’s Cheryl Vertefeuille
University College student Cheryl Vertefeuille '21 will accomplish a life goal when she graduates next Saturday with a Bachelor's Degree in Technology, Leadership, and Management: “It's been a long time coming. I feel relief, excitement, and joy.”
At Commencement, Vertefeuille will be wearing a stole that says "First Generation,” with her two teenagers in the audience as she proudly walks across the stage.
A Personal Goal Accomplished: "It's been a goal of mine since I graduated high school to get a college degree. It's something I wanted to complete for me, not just for my career. Not to get a better job or make more money, but for a sense of accomplishment."
Lifelong Learning: "I have two teenagers, 14 and 16. I wanted them to see the struggle that sometimes you have to go through. Even when my classes were hard, I never stopped believing I could reach my goal. I hope that they see that it's never too late and learning is a lifelong lesson."
Diverse Fields, People at RWU: "Because I've worked for the Navy, I know a number of military members who followed the Roger Williams path. There are many different fields at Roger Williams, and there also is diversity within the college itself. That was very appealing to me. It's not just a one-stop shop. You get to meet people from all walks of life, as well as a diverse group of people."
Vertefeuille is from Hope Valley, R.I.
