Roger Life: It's All About Teamwork with Brooklyn Cenatiempo
"We're a women's team, and March is Women's History Month, so I thought it would be a great idea to collect donations for the Women's Resource Center in Warren," said Brooklyn Cenatiempo, an RWU junior and member of the Field Hockey team's Community Outreach Group.
The Field Hockey team organized a drive, collecting much needed items such as food, toiletries, and other essentials for the Warren agency, which serves as a safe haven for women and families experiencing or fleeing domestic abuse. The drive ran March 1-8, collecting over 500 items.
Everyone Wanted to Help: "The response has been overwhelming. We did not think that people would donate as much as they did. It was really great. I came in every day to collect the items, and they were overflowing the box. I was not expecting that. A lot of the other athletic teams have been getting together and helping us. Everyone was super excited to get involved."
Being Part of a Team Got Us Through: "We are a fall sport. Our regular season was canceled, but are still able to practice. We practiced in the fall, and we are picking up again with practices now in the spring. We’ve been practicing inside, and in a couple of weeks we’ll be going outside. We have found ways to get through it and make it enjoyable. Just having a team, having someplace to go and forget everything that is going on by playing a sport with your friends, is awesome."
Cenatiempo, who is from Trumbull, Conn., is majoring in Elementary Education and minoring in Music.
