What do you do? How long have you been at RWU?
I have been here since July 2007. As Athletic Communications Director at Roger Williams University, I produce nearly all of the content on our athletics website as well as our social media platforms. I am kind of a jack-of-all-trades person for our athletic teams. I keep statistics, I write recaps and press releases, I take team and action pictures, I set up for our games and announce during them. I have a hand in a lot of what goes on for our home contests.
What gets you excited about coming to work every day?
I like celebrating the accomplishments of our student-athletes. They work so hard at their craft, so it’s great to be able to share their feats with others. I also enjoy interacting with our dedicated staff and our great students, whether they be student-athletes, my work-study staff, or the general student body population. They all play a major role in making this campus a special place to work.
What is your most memorable student experience?
Being here for so long, I’ve had a number of experiences that have been notable in my career:
Working the 2011 women’s lacrosse regular season finale in an athletic van because of a torrential downpour
Watching our volleyball team win four consecutive CCC Championships and traveling with them to the NCAA Tournament
Being honored with the Captains’ Award by our student-athletes
Inducting Claire Halliday into the Roger Williams University Athletic Hall of Fame
Every year is different and brings new memories. I’m thankful to have made so many in my time here.
How has RWU changed/grown since you arrived?
The campus has changed so much since I first started, with the construction of the turf field, New Res, GHH, the fourth Bayside, and of course the sailing center (thank you to our donors for their help with all of that!). Our student body population has significantly grown, and I think it’s a testament to the growing reputation of the University across New England, both academically and athletically. I’m excited to see the direction we are headed under President Miaoulis and I think great things are to come for the University.
