Journalism Alumna Wins Emmy for Reporting on Deadly Law Enforcement Attack

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Journalism alumna Britney Dixon ’19, a news producer for WSOC-TV in Charlotte, N.C., recently won a Regional Emmy for best morning newscast for her team’s coverage of a deadly ambush on law enforcement that killed four officers last April. Regional Emmys are awarded annually by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) to recognize excellence in local television programming.

“Winning this award is bittersweet,” said Dixon. “I hope the families of the four officers who gave the ultimate sacrifice to protect our city see how we were able to honor them that morning, and the way we informed our viewers of their dedication to the place we all love and call home.”

At RWU, Dixon served as the Managing Editor for The Hawks’ Herald. In her professional career, Dixon worked as an Assignment Editor for WTNH in New Haven, Conn., as a News Reporter with KTEN-TV in northern Texas, and as a multi-media journalist and producer New Orleans. Last year, she became a producer for the Charlotte, N.C. news station.
