Dr. Distefano’s research and teaching interests focus on familial and societal influences on child development. Her current program of research examines risk and protective processes in the lives of children and families experiencing homelessness. Much of Dr. Distefano’s work is done in collaboration with community partners, including emergency shelters and supportive housing communities. She uses both qualitative and quantitative methods to identify protective factors across multiple systems that support positive development in the context of homelessness and high mobility. Dr. Distefano teaches Child Development, Psychology of Adolescence, and Experimental Psychology and, in each of her courses, students apply the content to real-world problems and gain initial hands-on experience with psychological research.
Dr. Distefano is currently recruiting undergraduates to join her research lab. If interested, please complete the Research Assistant Interest Formand email it to rdistefano@rwu.edu
