How To Address Mail and Packages
Mail with the correct address formatting and content has less of a chance of being delayed and/or delivered to the wrong destination.
Here are some examples of proper formatting.
Campus Mail
For interoffice mail, using an appropriate campus inter-office mail envelope, follow this simple layout:
- Recipient's Name
- Department Name
- Building Name
U.S. Mail
- RECIPIENT'S NAME
- COMPANY NAME
- STREET ADDRESS
- CITY, STATE ZIP-CODE
International Mail
The bottom line of a foreign address should show only the country name, written in full.
Do not place postal codes of foreign designations on the line of the address.
Student Mail
- Student's Name - Student (including middle initial)
Sending Mail and Packages to Students
Those sending mail or packages to students living in campus housing must follow this guideline. Also,students (living in campus housing) must follow this format when ordering packages.
- STUDENT'S NAME - STUDENT
- ROGER WILLIAMS UNIVERSITY
- ONE OLD FERRY ROAD
- BRISTOL RI 02809-2921
Proper addressing example:
(Your student's name) – Student
Roger Williams University
One Old Ferry Rd
Bristol RI 02809-2921
For students living in campus housing, please use the same format when you order packages!
For Departments Ordering Packages
It is of the utmost importance that you use your department name when ordering packages!
Example:
John Smith
Engineering
Roger Williams University
1 Old Ferry Rd
Bristol, RI 02908
If you are limited to four lines on your order form, simply write:
John Smith - Engineering
Roger Williams University
1 Old Ferry Rd
Bristol, RI 02908
