SECCM Social Media & Events Mentors

Job Description

The role of the SECCM Social Media & Events Position will prepare students to take leadership roles in various organizations. This position will support the student academically and professionally by developing “hard” and “soft” transferable skills, including communication skills, interpersonal skills, analytic skills, and organizational skills (learning to balance multiple types of responsibilities with varying degrees of details, keeping track of and prioritizing details, progress, and goals, time management, and working independently).

 The student will learn digital marketing skills as well as how to identify and document the associated tasks with each skill and turn those skills into written procedures. They will learn how to implement those procedures and how to analyze the effectiveness of the procedures and presentations. These are important skills in any profession. This experience will enhance their academic progress, as they are able to relate and apply the skills they learn to their academic work as well as apply what they learn in the classroom to this position.

Year 1
Responsibility/Function

  • Learn how to use Social Media Platforms for promoting SECCM and related clubs.
  • Learn how to use Hawk Link for SECCM special events including creating events, sending invitations and record attendance
  • Learn how to use Canva and Adobe Spark to design slides to post for each platform.
  • Learn how to implement consistency across social media platforms (branding) including using consistent colors, consistent fonts and consistent styles.
  • Learn how to manage department social media presence on various social media outlets.
  • Learn how to schedule and prepare social media posts.
  • Learn how to design marketing advertisements for guest speakers, club activities, and other social and professional activities for the SECCM community.
  • Learn to market and implement special as needed.
  • Identify SECCM social media opportunities.
  • Learn general office tasks as needed.

Year 2
Responsibility/Function

  • Develop a platform dedicated to SECCM clubs, competitions, student accomplishments, alumni, etc.
  • Learn how to implement animations to digital Info Board presentations.
  • Review and update as needed the guidelines and reoccurring tasks to be implemented each semester to ensure consistency in updating the information for student clubs, faculty members, the annual student survey, etc. on the RISE Boards and social media.
  • Review and update as needed procedures for SECCM social media
  • Develop awareness campaigns to contribute to diversity and global awareness.
  • Plan, create and manage department social media presence on various social media outlets with supervision.
  • Schedule and prepare social media posts.
  • Identify new social media opportunities.
  • Assist with general office tasks as needed.

Year 3
Responsibility/Function

  • Continue creating and publishing presentations with advancement in graphic design, content idea generation and creation.
  • Finalize the development of a procedure for creating presentations by utilizing the outline created in Year 2 to create a detailed “how-to” guide for future Social Media Mentors.
  • Implement the procedure completed above.
  • Begin mentoring potential freshmen interested in applying for the position in their sophomore year.
  • Mentor new office assistants in learning general office tasks.
