Education Candidate Mentor (Program Support - Intern)

Job Description

This position would provide a teacher candidate with a strong understanding of teacher preparation and state guidelines for best classroom practice. The candidate will gain hands-on experience and knowledge of professional preparation, and will foster skills to become a growing leader. The student will be guided by the Director and Coordinator in the Office of Education Partnerships, Clinical Experiences, and Program Quality. Clinical experience hours (CEs) may be available for some role activities, at the Office’s discretion. 

Year 1 ~ Responsibility/Function
In the first year, the Education Candidate Mentor (Program Support Intern) will support the Office of Education Partnerships, Clinical Experiences and Program Quality by assisting the Director and the Coordinator with collecting/disseminating resources to candidates in the certification-track and assist with our ongoing accreditation Office operations.  This program support includes, but is not limited to, compiling (and designing) information on school/district partner profiles, spreadsheet/survey prep, Taskstream, promotion of PD/trainings, newsletters/marketing content, prof./state standards, and updating resource libraries.  The Education Mentor/Intern will learn to mentor rising candidates (1:1/small group) as they prepare for clinical work, while gaining a growing skill set of understandings of professional communications, guidelines, school contexts, and other experiences appropriate in Year 1.

Year 2 ~ Responsibility/Function
The Education Candidate Mentor (Program Support Intern) will continue duties from Year 1 and will gain a deeper understanding of clinical responsibilities as they serve as a mentor to support new teacher candidates preparing meet program requirements and visiting their RWU placements at various school sites. The Education Mentor/Intern will assist with preparing and distributing/posting current Clinical Experience Guides, Handbooks, professional experiences early in the semester, and any other Department (e.g. online) communications needed. The candidate will support with ongoing data collection and filing for RIDE accreditation visits by liaising with faculty/staff in a professional manner.  This experience will benefit their understanding the Rhode Island Professional Teaching Standards (RIPTS), developing their own dispositions, and prepare them for a successful career as a growing leader in education.  In Year 2, the Intern may outreach with partner community organizations in their role.

When needed, the student will continue to support the responsibilities in year one.

Year 3 ~ Responsibility/Function
In the 3rd year, the Education Candidate Mentor/Intern will continue responsibilities from Year 2 and 3 and assume a greater responsibility in preparing and sharing content for seminars, workshops and ongoing professional development. This would include attending meetings, contributing ideas for content, serving as a co-presenter, preparing event details, partner outreach, and attending partnership events.  Other duties will be assigned as needed/at the discretion of Director & Dept. needs (e.g. RIDE accreditation).
