We believe that education of both the staff and student workers is paramount in order to provide the best experience and service to our student athletes. Student workers are required to be First Aid and CPR/AED certified and will be expected to assist the certified Athletic Trainer in the event of an emergency during home athletic competitions. Under the supervision of the Sports Medicine & Athletic Training staff, student workers will be educated in basic taping techniques and modalities to assist the athletic trainers. Educating the student workers how to help prepare an athlete for a game or practice will help eliminate congestion and long waiting times to be treated. Emphasis on proper techniques to use and when to use them will ensure that the student athlete is still getting the appropriate treatment whether they are getting help from an Athletic Trainer or student worker. Student workers will be expected to work alongside and assist an Athletic Trainer during home contests. They will be responsible for assisting the Athletic Trainer during the event. Tasks may include but are not limited to ensuring athletes have adequate water, stretching, splinting, activating the EMS based upon our emergency action plan (EAP), and any other tasks the Athletic Trainer may need assistance with. Student worker are expected to be made available for the entire length of the sporting event. This includes pre-game preparations (water, field set up etc.) and post-game clean up. Other duties will include, set out daily treatment log, fill/clean whirlpool, drop off/ pick up laundry, fold laundry, fill water bottles/coolers, restock supplies, clean and organize rehab equipment and area and sitting at the front desk making sure athletes check in/out, filling, shredding, mailing, faxing.
