Summer 2013 courses feature special course offerings taught by visiting faculty

SAAHP continued its efforts to offer inventive coursework led by visiting faculty in Summer 2013.

Catherine Zipf, Ph.D., formerly of Salve Regina University and now a Visiting Scholar at MIT, taught a course, AAH 430/530 Special Topics: Women in American Architecture in Summer 1 Session from May 22-June 24. Carl Safe, Professor at the Sam Fox School of Design and Visual Arts at Washington University in St. Louis, returned for a second year teaching Arch 530 Special Topics: Furniture Design in Summer 1 as well. Sean McPherson, who has taught previously at Wheaton College, Academy of Art San Francisco, and the University of South Florida, taught a course AAH 330/530 Special Topics: Modern Japanese Architecture in the Summer II Session July 1-August 5.

Bonder + Wodiczko’s Memorial to the Abolition of Slavery in Nantes, France continues to receive international attention

The Memorial to the Abolition of Slavery in Nantes, France, designed by RWU Professor of Architecture Julian Bonder and Harvard University Professor and public artist Krzysztof Wodiczko continues to receive extensive international attention following its opening in 2012. This June 2013 Wodiczko and Bonder gave a joint presentation at the Memorial in Nantes, France for scholars and participants to a group from South Africa, Martinique, Guadeloupe, Dominica, the UN, Vietnam, France, Germany, and Ireland. In Barcelona, Spain Bonder lectured at the Centro de Cultura Contempranea de Barcelona (CCCB) within their Metropolis Masters Program, followed by 3 lectures in Lithuania—at the M.K.
