JP Fernandes exhibits at SAAHP as part of September Bristol-Warren Art Night

Bristol artist John Paul Fernandes was the featured artist at the SAAHP for the September Bristol-Warren Art Night September 28. Fernandes studied art at the Roger Williams, studied jewelry design and jewelry model making at Rhode Island School of Design, and studied porcelain doll making through the Seeley's Porcelain Doll Artisans School of Doll Making. Recent exhibitions include the Portsmouth Arts Guild, Newport Art Museum, Gallery 297 of the Art League of Rhode Island, and Spring Bull Gallery, Newport.

Student Work from Inaugural Emerging Artist Program work exhibited at SAAHP Atrium

Student work from the inaugural offering of the Emerging Artist Program organized between the Town of Bristol and Roger Williams University was on view in the SAAHP Atrium from September 27th to October 11th. Four students from Mount Hope High School, Bristol, coordinated by Art instructor Kathleen Dwyer, enrolled alongside Roger Williams students in a VARTS 101 Foundations of Drawing class taught by Adjunct Faculty and Art on Campus Coordinator Rob Rustermier in the Summer 2 Session from early July to mid-August. The effort is supported by a Town of Bristol-Roger Williams University Cooperative Committee, and Mount Hope High School was supported in Summer and Fall 2012 through a grant from the Bristol-Warren Educational Foundation.

The Emerging Artist Program continues in Fall 2012 with nine Mount Hope High School students enrolled in VARTS 201 Drawing the Figure, taught by Adjunct Faculty Tayo Heuser.

 

Visiting Professor Paul Lukez’s book Transforming the Mid-Polis involves Roger Williams University students and faculty with other US and Chinese schools, leading theorists and practitioners

2010 Visiting Professor of Architecture Paul Lukez’s book, Transforming the Mid-Polis is nearing completion, co-edited by Lukez and China’s Bao Li.  The editors gather the work of leading figures and firms active in contemporary world architecture, urbanism and the arts alongside students taught by Lukez at Southwest University, Nanjing; Washington University, St. Louis and Roger Williams University to evaluate the “Mid-Polis” condition—between the city center and the suburban fringe--worldwide.

Edgar Adams and graduate Architecture student Brian Boivert presented the results of their yearlong research project at GrowSmart RI’s Power of Place Summit on May 11, 2012. Working with GrowSmart RI, Statewide Planning and the RI Housing Network, they developed a 3 session program to highlight the critical role of growth center planning in Rhode Island’s future development.  Adams led off a session “Main Street Districts and Growth Centers 101” with an introduction to national trends and models in growth management planning.

Professor Julian Bonder wins 2012 BSA Honor Award, Small Firm Award

BonderProfessor Julian Bonder’s work with Krystof Wodiczko on the Memorial for the Abolition of Slavery in Nantes, France has been awarded both a 2012 Small Firm Award for Wodiczko + Bonder as well as a 2012 Honor Award for Design Excellence from the Boston Society of Architects.  These are two of numerous recognitions for the work over the past two years.
