Austin Scott wins top student award, 2nd place overall, in International Obama Presidential Center Competition

In an international competition for the Obama Presidential Library co-sponsored by Archbazar, Built Works, Cannon Design, AIA Chicago, Dwell on Design, Green Apple Campus, Autodeks and Forum 8, RWU M.Arch. student Austin Scott has placed 2nd overall out of more than 425 entries, and was top student in the competition. The competition is a unique, non-binding competition that parallels the ongoing real contest for the Obama Presidential Library recently awarded to Todd Williams Billie Tsien, New York. The project was completed as part of RWU’s Arch 513 Comprehensive Project Design Studio, taught by Assistant Professor Nathan Fash in Spring 2016. Scott’s recognition includes a $2100 award.

Brazil students achieve US internships in the Art and Architecture

Three Architecture students who attended RWU in 2015/16 as part of the Brazil Scientific Mobility Program (BSMP) are completing paid internships in the US this summer, through SAAHP’s Career Investment Program. Marian Rosa Van Bodegraven is working with artists Megan and Murray McMillan in Pawtucket. Megan McMillan is an art faculty member at the School of the MFA in Boston, Murray McMillan is Associate Professor of Art at Roger Williams. Lucas da Silva Buriche Coutinho is working for ZDS Architects, Providence, led by RWU alum Eric Zuena, BArch ‘00.

RWU Architecture undergraduates attend top US graduate schools in Fall 2016

50 of RWU’s 71 2016 BS in Architecture graduates are attending Master of Architecture programs across the country this Fall. More than 40 are continuing onto RWU’s M.Arch. program, with others attending the University of Pennsylvania, Michigan, Southern California, Oregon, the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and Virginia Polytechnic Institute.

20th annual Summer Academy in Architecture hosts HS students

RWU’s Summer Academy in Architecture is being offered this July for the 20th consecutive year.  21 students from 8 states enrolled, including several receiving scholarship support for their perspectives on diversity. The program was established in 1997 initially as a non-credit program, and led by Greg Laramie, who is now Associate Dean. Since 2013 the Summer Academy has offered 3 college credits, and is led by Adjunct Faculty member Julia Bernert. Students are involved in design studio, drawing, computing, lectures and field trips to significant architecture sites in the Northeast over a four-week period.
