Architecture Student David Arce is one of 3 winners of the Newman Medal for Architectural Acoustics

David Arce, BS' 13, M.Arch. '15, nominated by Professor of Architecture Jeffrey Staats, is one of three 2013 winners of the Newman Medal for Architectural Acoustics, along with a student from the University of Southern California and another from the University of Kansas. Arce received the award for his acoustical analysis of a religious worship space within a Catholic church located in Providence, Rhode Island. Arce is the tenth Roger Williams student to be recognized in the annual nationwide Newman Medal competition since 1989, all ten mentored by Professor Staats. The students develop a term project from their own previous architectural work, and then after consultations with Staats through required meetings, submit the work to the Newman Student Award review process. Other schools participating included Harvard, Princeton, Washington University, UCLA, Georgia Tech, Maryland, MIT, Illinois, Oklahoma State, Auckland, Cambridge, Florida, RPI, Vassar, Eindhoven and others.

RWU + RISD Student Show at AIA Window on Architecture, Providence June-July 2013

The 3rd annual RWU + RISD Student Show was held at the AIA Rhode Island Window on Architecture from June 18-July 16, 2013 in conjunction with Providence Gallery Night. This year graduating student work from the two schools' Master of Architecture programs was featured.

Two of Three May 2013 SAAHP graduates heading directly to graduate programs in Fall

For 2013/14, two thirds of SAAHP graduates in Architecture and Historic Preservation who participated in May 2013 Commencement are enrolling in graduate studies, at universities including the University of Texas-Austin, Washington University in St. Louis, University of Florida, University of British Columbia, and Roger Williams University.

In Architecture, Kathleen Clarke, '13 is destined for the University of Texas at Austin for the Master of Architecture Program, Garrett House '13 to the Sam Fox School of Design at Washington University in St. Louis for the Master of Architecture, Nathan Blinn '13 is pursuing his M.S. in Construction Management at the University of Florida; Shannon Pitt, '13, who was a 2013 President's Core Values Medallion Winner following her undergraduate studies in historic preservation, architecture, and Art and Architectural History, is attending the University of British Columbia Master of Architecture program.
