Affiliates

Since 1986 Roger Williams University has had an educational relationship with the Army National Guard. Since that time, the program provisions which first applied to the National Guard have been extended to all service members and military organizations, consistent with the guidelines, goals, and procedures of the Service-members Opportunity Colleges (SOC) and the Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Education Support (DANTES).

The School of Continuing Studies at RWU has affiliations with military organizations and units in a variety of states, including the Rhode Island, New Jersey, North Carolina, and Mississippi National Guard, DANTES, SOC, SOCNAV, SOCAD, SOCCOAST, SOCGUARD and the Naval Education and Training Center. The University is listed in the directories of most of these military-related organizations, and the School of Continuing Studies enrolls students from every branch of the armed forces.

The University's affiliation with SOC and DANTES reflects its commitment to the educational goals, principles, and philosophy advanced and supported by these organizations. Roger Williams was one of the founding partners in the Army National Guard and Coast Guard Institutes.

Academic Programs

Service members are eligible to enroll in any of the academic programs offered by the School of Continuing Studies so long as they meet the admissions requirements. The military program enables distance learning students to enroll in a variety of degree programs including: Criminal Justice, Industrial Technology, Community Development and Public Administration. Campus-based military students may enroll in any of the programs offered to continuing education students.

Service members who have been certified by military education officers are eligible for special tuition rates applicable to them and to their spouses. The University's application fee is waived for military personnel. Faculty and staff work closely with participating military education officers to identify eligible students, process applications, register students, evaluate and post credit on student records, and provide a high level of services to all military personnel.

Through enrollment in the military program, students are eligible to seek credit for their military course work and ratings, CLEP exams, credit transfers from other colleges, and through the Credit Documentation process. The minimum residency/enrollment requirement of thirty credits applies to service members, and service members are subject to the academic and institutional rules and regulations which apply to all students at the University, as announced in its catalog and publications.
