Education is a foundational institution in our democratic society, and it is a distinct area of academic inquiry. Students majoring in Elementary Education explore a broad spectrum of disciplines, and they study content, curriculum, instruction and assessment in the core areas of the elementary curriculum. Each and every course includes a field experience. Our program prepares teachers to teach in diverse environments by placing them in a variety of settings during the program. The major prepares students to teach in grades 1-6.
The Elementary Education program at RWU is unique for its small classes, individual attention from faculty advisors—who will follow you for your full time on campus--opportunities to work in diverse classrooms, strong sense of camaraderie and collegiality among faculty and students, and opportunities to teach abroad through RWU's collaborative teaching sites throughout the world. We currently offer Student Teaching in Puerto Rico.
