The Accounting program at Roger Williams University prepares students to become professional accountants and begin careers in large or small businesses, public accounting, government or private practice. The accounting program has a practical orientation and accounting majors examine, in depth, the contemporary accounting systems that are used to fulfill the information needs of shareholders, managers, taxing authorities and others.
RWU stands apart from the competition thanks to electives like Accounting Ethics, International Accounting and Governmental Accounting. Our program will equip you with leadership and communication skills, business savvy and technical know-how.
Accountants engage in a wide variety of activities besides preparing financial statements and recording business transactions, including:

  • computer costs and efficiency gains from new technologies
  • participating in strategies from mergers and acquisitions
  • quality management
  • tracking financial performance
  • developing tax strategies

All accounting majors gain hands-on, real-world accounting experience as interns. Accounting majors are encouraged to pursue one or more professional accounting certificates (CPA, CMA, CFM, CIA, CFE) after graduation.
